Hamilton Beach Programmable Slow Cooker Review

Hamilton Beach Programmable Slow Cooker Review – Every year in October my husband and I head to a cabin in Colorado for a week. The cabin is really well stocked, but the one thing it doesn’t have is a slow cooker, so we always bring one with us. We love coming back to the cabin after a day of hiking, sight seeing or shopping and opening the door to the delicious aroma of dinner cooking itself. Actually, there are days we like to just sit if front of a roaring fire while reading books and smelling that same delicious aroma!

Much as I love that welcoming smell, I’m not always as crazy about the sometimes overcooked, stringy meat that comes from all that cooking time. So I decided it was time to investigate slow cookers and see if anything new and improved had arrived on the kitchen appliance scene since , well, since such a LONG time ago when we purchased ours.

Hamilton Beach 33464 Slow Cooker Review

Well, Holy Crock Pot!  It seems slow cookers have come quite a distance in the now not -so-new millennium! And my research led me to believe that I may have found the perfect one for our needs, the Hamilton Beach 33464 slow cooker.

This pot is amazing for many reasons. First of all, it is a great size, 6 quarts, so it is big enough for healthy size recipes of chili and stews. There are three modes to choose from: the manual mode for traditional cooking or heating, the program mode which cooks while you’re away, and the probe mode which uses a thermometer to cook to the exact internal temperature of the meat and then shifts to the keep warm setting. How amazing is that? No more mystery meat in the slow cooker!

The push button control panel is easy to read and the digital display and timer are great for setting up preferences of cooking time and temperature. In addition, the Hamilton Beach 33464 slow cooker has power interruption protection for worry free cooking.

The cooker is great for transporting food to potlucks, office parties, etc. because it has full grip metal handles and a clip tight gasket lid. No more spilled chili all over the floor of the car! Also, the lid has a rubber edge which provides an airtight seal so there’s less evaporation of liquids. There is also a handy little bonus feature, a cooking spoon that clips onto the lid.

I like that the rubber feet on the bottom of the Hamilton Beach keep it from sliding on slick surfaces such as my granite counter top. The slow cooker is easy to clean as the crock and lid are both dishwasher safe, and the touch pad digital controls are easier to clean than knobs and buttons.

I read that this slow cooker was a top pick for Consumer Reports and I can certainly see why. Short of preparing the food itself I can’t think what else one could ask of these appliances.

The one negative I read about the Hamilton Beach 33464 was that some people had trouble with the cooker turning itself during cooking. That would be very annoying to say the least, but I also read that programming it correctly and reading instructions carefully would prevent this problem from happening.

I am so happy that I discovered this cooking miracle and am also happy that I found it at a really reasonable price on Amazon, which makes the Hamilton Beach 33464 an excellent value.
