Coffee: The Most Popular Beverage in the World
Coffee is the most popular beverage in the world, with an estimated 2.25 billion cups consumed daily. Coffee distribution has become an important part of the global economy, with coffee beans being sourced from all around the world. Coffee is enjoyed in many different forms, from espresso to cold brew, and its unique flavor profiles make it a favorite among all types of coffee drinkers. With the rise of specialty coffee, more people than ever are looking to explore the world of coffee and discover new flavor profiles. Coffee distribution is a complex process, with beans being sourced, roasted, and distributed to coffee shops, cafes, and stores around the world.
Nowadays there are many different types of coffees. There are many different kinds of coffee. The basis of most of them is espresso, which is supplemented or slightly modified with something. The preparation of these drinks is not even as difficult as many may think. With a little patience and enough information, anyone can be a barista. ☕
The most important thing to start with, then, is espresso, which we may know by the distorted name of presso. It is a small but strong coffee. 8 g of freshly ground beans are poured over 30 ml of water, the extraction takes 30 seconds. The resulting beverage is poured into a pre-warmed 60 to 90 ml cup.
Double espresso or doppio is, as the name suggests, a double shot of espresso. In order to preserve the correct taste, the proportions must not be altered. For 16 g of coffee, 60 ml of water is used. We can also have a ‘triple’ espresso, again using 90 ml of water for 24 g of coffee.
Ristretto is a stronger espresso. The difference is in the amount of water, only 20 ml per 8 g of coffee. You should feel a stronger and more pronounced flavour, but at the same time the sweetness should stand out and the bitterness should soften a little.
Lungo is prepared by pouring 8 g of well-ground coffee into about 60 ml of water (twice as much as espresso). Thus, a weaker drink is created, but with the use of quality beans, the distinctive taste and aroma remain.
Americano is made by refilling the espresso with hot water (approx. 150 ml). The name originated during World War II when soldiers didn’t like strong espresso, so they mixed it with water.
When the espresso cup is filled to the brim with milk foam, the result is espresso machiato. Originally only a spoonful of milk foam was given.
Cappuccino is very familiar and widely available. Espresso is topped up with milk and milk foam. The ratio is divided into thirds, everything must be equal in quantity.
U flat white is the base of a double espresso, which is complemented by 100 ml of hot milk. As with a cappuccino, a milky foam forms on the surface.
Caffè latte is probably the weakest coffee, created as a drink for children. The espresso is topped up with 200 ml of hot milk. It is served in a large porcelain cup.
The best thing to look at is definitely latte macchiato. 200 ml of milk is foamed and poured into a glass, where the foam separates from the milk. The espresso is then added and flows down to create a beautiful tri-coloured drink with a drop of coffee in the middle of the froth. It is served in a tall transparent glass to bring out the colours.
Wishing you a wonderful time with good coffee.
